The Honest Math
Most people assume insurance-based PT is cheaper. When you run the real numbers — including visit count, co-pays, and deductibles — the math tells a different story.
How to Pay
We accept multiple payment methods to make cash-based care as accessible as possible — including pre-tax health account dollars.
Health Savings Accounts are funded with pre-tax dollars, making your effective PT cost 20–35% lower depending on your tax bracket. Physical therapy is a fully qualified HSA medical expense under IRS guidelines. Swipe your HSA card at checkout — same as any debit card.
Flexible Spending Accounts work the same way — pre-tax dollars loaded by your employer that must be used within the plan year. If you have FSA funds sitting unused, PT is one of the best ways to spend them. Don't let your FSA dollars expire unspent.
If your health insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be reimbursed for a portion of your Solas PT sessions. After each visit, request a superbill — a detailed receipt with diagnosis codes and procedure codes — and submit it to your insurance directly for out-of-network reimbursement.
Why It Works
The fundamental problem with insurance-based PT is not the therapist — it's the business model. When a clinic needs to see 3–5 patients per hour to stay profitable under insurance reimbursement rates, it becomes structurally impossible to deliver intensive one-on-one care.
The result: shorter sessions, more delegation to aides, and more visits to achieve the same outcome. A condition that would resolve in 5 intensive sessions at Solas PT may take 15 visits at an insurance clinic — with 14 of those visits providing only 10 minutes of actual therapist contact.
Cash-based PT removes that constraint. Every session at Solas PT is fully hands-on — manual therapy, dry needling, and a personalized exercise program — with a doctoral-level therapist who knows your case, your body, and your goals intimately because they've been your only provider from day one.
Out-of-Network Reimbursement
If your plan has out-of-network benefits, you may recover a significant portion of your PT cost. Here's exactly how.
Not all plans have out-of-network benefits — HMO plans typically do not. PPO and some POS plans usually do. The key question to ask your insurer is whether you have "out-of-network physical therapy benefits" and what your out-of-network deductible is.
Even if reimbursement is partial, combining it with HSA/FSA payment can make cash-based PT highly cost-effective compared to staying in-network with a clinic that delivers lower-quality care.
